CINEMA & TV

“Life is a tragedy when seen in close-up, but a comedy in long-shot.” — Charlie Chaplin

Having built the backbone of his artistic career with music, Nezih Ünen embarked on his journey of directing and storytelling with Lost Songs of Anatolia. Following his debut narrative feature, Blue Lodge, he continued to enrich his cinematic language through new screenplays. Channeling the industry-wide slowdown of the pandemic era into an intensive writing process, the director has finalized several screenplays, including:

  • Treasure of the Tribe (Aşiret Altınları): Set in Mardin and crafted in the style of magical realism, this treasure-hunt narrative was evaluated as part of the TRT TV Films project, ranking in the top 5 out of 1,750 submissions, with a mutual agreement for future development.

  • Remaking Martin: This dramatic science-fiction screenplay became a quarterfinalist in the prestigious CineStory Foundation Screenwriting Competition in Los Angeles.

  • Dawn of the Sklylark (Bülbül’ün Şafağı): Exploring a fictional historical narrative regarding the origin of flamenco, screenplay development is currently underway for its production in Spain.

Beyond his silver screen projects, the world of television has also occupied a prominent place in Nezih Ünen's career. In the early years of his composition career, he scored prominent TRT series such as Yarın Artık Bugündür, written by the renowned poet and novelist Attilâ İlhan, followed by Üçüncü İstasyon and Belene. With the launch of private broadcasting, he composed nearly all audio branding and network packages for major television and radio channels—initially for Star TV and its radio networks, and subsequently for atv—alongside the theme music for various popular shows such as Süper Turnike and Piyangola.

In later years, he served as co-producer for the television contest Sing Your Song, broadcast on Show TV, which contributed to the careers of major artists including maNga and Emre Aydın. He later shared his vision with television audiences as the creator and host of  Nezih Ünen’le O Şarkılar (Those Songs with Nezih Ünen), a 13-episode music-oriented talk show broadcast on TRT Music.
