LITERATURE

Those who tell the stories rule the society." — Plato

Continuing his artistic endeavors at the intersection of music, cinema, and literature, Nezih Ünen debuted as a novelist in 2019 with Remaking Martin, an English-language novel adapted from his own screenplay. The book has been published and made available on global platforms, including Amazon.

“A wildly original near-future drama… This is sci-fi how it should be.” — John Staughton (SPR Senior Reviewer)

The Plot: Professor Martin Finch manages a two-billion-dollar energy project. When a critical health condition puts his life at risk, his corporation proposes a radical solution to safeguard the future of the project. In a top-secret genetic institute, Martin will be cloned, and his memory will be transferred to his replica, Martin2, who is destined to replace him. This way, Martin2 can complete the project while also taking care of a family that believes he is the real Martin.

During the final stage of the cloning process, Martin is forced to spend time with Martin2 to assess whether his replica is truly flawless. The decision he makes will determine which of the two will walk out of the institute alive and which one must die. While confined to the institute, Martin befriends Sarah Joyce, a famous Hollywood actress who is also undergoing her own cloning process. As they navigate this bizarre journey together, a close bond develops between them, leading them to share a secret that will alter the course of their lives forever.

Alongside his collection of fictional and existential narratives, Nezih Ünen is currently preparing a philosophical essay book that he has been developing for nearly a decade. Structured around reality, perception, and spiritual alignment, this forthcoming work offers a holistic perspective on the art of living and daily mindfulness practices.

LYRICS (TRANSLATED)

As the sun goes down
The clouds suddenly color the skies
An ache rises deep within me
And solitude arrives

No friend like a true friend by my side
No love like a true love, lost in the tide
My only consolation
Is this gypsy heart of mine…

From “Çingene Yüreğim” (My Gypsy Heart)

Flames are dancing on the torches…
Virtues are swept away by the wind
As the dust and smoke howl,
Mountains and stones crumble down.

Love is a Russian roulette, passed hand to hand
As the ugly cast off their masks at last
All things beautiful catch fire and burn,
While the wretched dervishes spin wild in turn…

From “Karnaval” (Carnival)

Night traveler,
You are so weary, I know
Even though you hide away,
I see you in the shadows

Your music has faded, your light turned old
Your clock has stopped, its ticking cold
And those vibrant dreams you used to keep
Have all turned into nightmares deep…

From “Gece Yolcusu” (Night Traveler)

“Behind my misty eyes, my heart remains
As silent as the night
As desolate as death
As lonely as you…

From “Beyoğlu”

I feel like a stone hanging in the air
That is how desperately I miss you…”

‍ ‍From “Geriye Bakmadan” (Without Looking Back)

“How can I tell her
That the sandcastles will fall
Against the waves and the wind
So many dreams will shatter after all

How can I tell her
The master of her dreams, the one she adores
Will be the one to break her heart the most
Then, it will all pass…”

From “Kumdan Kaleler” (Sandcastles)

“Held hostage in the hands of fate
Are all the ones I hold dear
Beauties slip through open palms
Like an illusion, fading and clear
So hard to attain,
Impossible to retain…”

From “Korumak İmkansız” (Impossible to Protect)
